6. Adding downloadable files to your website

How to add a link to downloadable information on your club page.

  1. Save a copy of the file that is to be added to the website on your machine.  If you received this file through the email as an attachment, you should save the attachment to your machine.
  2. Login to the Rostrum website
  3. Click to the home page of the website that you wish to edit.
  4. You will see a green edit bar above the page heading for your page.  Above this edit bar is a set of tabs that show the options contents, view, edit, properties, sharing.  Click on the contents tab.
  5. You will see a list of the contents of your website.  This will include pages and folders.  One of the folders is named Downloads. Click on this folder name.
  6. The page will now display a list of any existing downloadable files that have been added to your website.
  7. At the top of the central portion of the page you will see a new tab list and a menu list showing actions display add item state.  Click on add item. Select file from the list.
  8. The page header will now show Edit File.  Type a title for the file (use a clear and concise name that is unique for your file). Type a description of the file content. Click on the Replace with new file selection and you will see the Browse button change colour.
  9. Click the Browse button.  A window will pop up on your screen displaying a browse window that shows files that are located on your own machine.  Click on the name of the file that you want to load to the web page and click the Open button.  (You could double click on the file name to get the same result)
  10. The window will disappear and you will see a file name loaded in the text box next to the Browse button.  Click Save to load the file to your website storage.
  11. Now that the file is available for use on the page, you need to click on the page in your website that the file is to be linked from.
  12. Click the edit tab for this page.
  13. Type the information that will accompany the link to the file.  Highlight the link text (this should indicate what the user is clicking the link for eg the name of the document). 
  14. In the edit bar for the page you will see an editing option that resembles a couple of links of a chain.  Hold your mouse over this option and it will display a little prompt saying internal link.  Click this link editing feature.  The window show Insert Link with a list of your recent items and a folder for the current folder.  Click on My recent items.  Your list of files will display.  Find the file that you want to link to your text.  Click on its name and click Ok.
  15. The link will be added to your page.
  16. Remember to save the webpage after your changes and then submit the page for publishing.
